A player currently on the books at Borussia Dortmund could be perfect for Liverpool.
According to a recent report from the Mirror Liverpool are interested in signing Christian Benteke from Aston Villa this summer.
The Belgian international enjoyed a renaissance under new Villa manager Tim Sherwood, finishing last season with 13 goals in 29 league games and 15 in all competitions.
With a total of 49 goals in 101 appearances for Villa the 24-year-old is clearly a regular goal threat but is he really the right player for Liverpool?
With a release-clause of £32.5million he will certainly not come cheap and there is an interesting alternative out there who Liverpool could potentially get for far less than it would take to sign Benteke.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a 26-year-old Borussia Dortmund centre forward who is also equally comfortable playing on either wing, and his versatility and pace seem to fit Liverpool’s style of play far more than the Villa star.
Dortmund may have struggled for much of last season, but Aubameyang still finished the campaign with 25 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
In total for the German club he has scored 41 goals in 94 games and prior to that he netted 41 times in 96 matches for French club Saint-Etienne.
In short, the Gabon international is a consistent goal threat and he is far more mobile than a player Liverpool are being tipped to pay £32.5million for.
Dortmund may be reluctant to do business, but if an offer too good to refuse came their way, Liverpool could add the final touch to what looks like being a very effective forward-line next season and beyond.
