Everton fans react to Luke Garbutt's new five-year deal on Twitter

Everton supporters have been giving their opinion on Luke Garbutt's long-term contract.

According to reports from BBC Sport, Everton left-back Luke Garbutt has signed a new five-year deal at Goodison Park.

Following uncertainty over his long-term future - a period in which he had been linked by the Daily Star with a free transfer to Merseyside rivals Liverpool - the Toffees academy product has put pen to paper, extending his stay with the club until 2020.

Everton had tabled an new contract offer in February but the former Leeds United youngster had still not agreed new terms by the end of the season, increasing speculation that he was ready to leave the club in search of first-team football.

The 22-year-old played in all three of England's games throughout a disappointing European Under-21 Championship campaign last month, while he made 10 appearances for Roberto Martinez's side last season.

He will now look to displace fan favourite and senior England international Leighton Baines in Roberto Martinez's starting first team plans. This feat will not be easily achieved, but it is very promising to see a player of his age actively seeking such a challenge.

Here is how Twitter reacted to news of Garbutt's contract extension.
