Following his departure from Everton earlier this summer Sylvain Distin has not taken long to find a new club, with Bournemouth signing the centre-back on a one-year deal.
He may be 37, but the former Toffees star has plenty still to offer, not least a considerable amount of Premier League experience, and it will be interesting to see how he aids the newly-promoted side’s upcoming campaign.
Distin played 210 times for Everton and while he was used sparingly last season Bournemouth cannot be knocked for bringing the player in on a free transfer.
A one-year deal shows they are not being foolishly over-ambitious, instead signing up a player for a year that could play a significant role in their long-term future.
Bournemouth have already signed Tyrone Mings, Josh King, Artur Boruc and Adam Federici as well as agreeing a loan deal for Chelsea’s Christian Atsu, and manager Eddie Howe must be applauded for his savvy dealings so far.
Following the news that Distin had put pen to paper we took to Twitter to see what Bournemouth and Everton fans thought of the move and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Surprised so many people are baffled by Distin signing, great experience. Players will learn a lot from him regardless. #afcb— Adrian (@AyJayL) July 1, 2015
if he stays fit, Distin is a great addition - bags of experience #afcb— Matt Hughes (@penfolder) July 1, 2015
Distin's a very good bit of business in my opinion— Tom Winters (@TomWinters17) July 1, 2015
Distin is an important signing for #afcb, vaster BPL experience than Surman, Gosling, Stanislas and Boruc - striking a good balance— Lets Talk Generation (@LTGeneration) July 1, 2015
@TransferNewsCen Distin is a good signing for them, be prepared for dodgy defending every now and again like— Lee Hodgson (@JustLeeHodgson) July 1, 2015
Sylvain Distin to Bournemouth is top quality business. An actual signing of a veteran defender that doesn't stink of desperation.— William Brophy (@WilliamBrophy) July 1, 2015
