Burnley fans react on Twitter as Tom Heaton signs new deal

Tom Heaton's contract renewal has been a welcome piece of good news for Burnley fans, after reported interest from Aston Villa and Southampton.

Tom Heaton will be keeping goal for Burnley for another three seasons after signing a new contract at the club, and Clarets fans are delighted at the news.

Burnley haven't had much to be happy about since the end of last season. Quite apart from having to put up with their club slipping back down to the Championship after one season in the top flight, despite a series of decent results, they also saw top scorer and star striker Danny Ings depart for Liverpool and favourite Kieran Trippier leave for Tottenham.

Unsurprisingly, Heaton's contract renewal, coming after he was involved with the England senior side for the first time this summer, was a particularly big boost to a side who will be eager to put together a strong attempt to head straight back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper had been linked with moves to both Aston Villa and Southampton over the summer, according to the Mirror, as he impressed for the Clarets in his second season at the club.

But the 29-year-old has committed his future to Turf Moor for another three years, and Burnley supporters took to Twitter to express their delight at the news:
