Aston Villa transfer round-up: Liverpool agree Benteke deal, Villa in for Cambiasso

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Aston Villa today...

TalkSPORT provided an update on Christian Benteke’s future, with their ‘man on the inside’ claiming a move to Liverpool was all but agreed.

"I expect him to sign if not today then certainly in the not too distant future. Liverpool have done their work and have sealed a deal [with Aston Villa]," he said on Alan Brazil’s Sport Breakfast Show.

There was somewhat of a surprise on the incoming front, with Esteban Cambiasso linked with a move to Villa Park by The Sun.

The Argentinian veteran signed a one-year deal with Leicester City last summer but has not yet committed to a longer stay.

Another midfielder is apparently in Tim Sherwood’s sights, with the Daily Mail claiming Villa have submitted a £9 million bid for Lille star Idrissa Gueye.

Villa are rumoured to be one of five Premier League clubs chasing the 25-year old’s signature, and his capture will be a major coup for whoever manages it.

FC Groningen winger Tjaronn Chery’s move to Villa looks closer to completion today after Groninger Gezinsbode reported on his failure to show up for the club’s first day of pre-season.

His absence comes after claims that a deal was close to being agreed on Monday, as per The Sun.

Finally, Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair were officially confirmed as Villa players today on the club’s official website, after their signings earlier this summer.
