A Senegalese international, Gueye, 25, is a box-to-box midfielder who has impressed in recent years. Regarded as a strong defensive presence, he added a goal threat to his game last season, and would represent a signing of a player which the Hammers do not currently possess.
The report states that the offer was for between £5.7 million and £7 million, whilst it is also indicated that London rivals Crystal Palace have made an offer for him.
The Daily Mail has suggested that West Ham are in discussions to sign a new striker, with Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez on a shortlist of transfer targets. He is only seen as a back-up option though, with the Hammers favouring a move for Loic Remy and Charlie Austin first.
West Ham have been linked with signing Angelo Ogbonna from Juventus this summer, and Tuttosport have revealed that the Serie A club are open to selling him for a minimum transfer fee of £7 million.
A host of other Premier League clubs are linked with him, but Ogbonna is keen on securing a transfer to a club with European football to their name.
