A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening...

Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing defender Toby Alderweireld, according to a report in the London Evening Standard

The Belgian was on loan at Southampton last season and the club are keen on making that loan move from Atletico Madrid a permanent one.

However, the player favours a move to White Hart Lane, according to the report, despite Saints boss Ronald Koeman saying that he is hopeful he can keep him on the South Coast.

Spurs are reported to be prepared to pay £14m for Alderweireld's services.

The London Evening Standard also offers an update on the pursuit of Christian Benteke - the Aston Villa striker seemingly doesn't want a move to White Hart Lane.

The Standard reports that even if a deal was agreed between the two clubs, the forward would turn it down, suggesting that he is unhappy at the treatment he received from Tottenham two years ago - when Benteke thought that the North London outfit were going to make an offer of around £25m for him, which led to the forward handing in a transfer request at Villa Park.

That didn't materialise and he ended up signing a new deal with Villa. Benteke is also reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool.

There are also doubts Spurs will be prepared to pay the asking price, which is said to be £32.5m.
