Report: Queens Park Rangers set to complete Sebastian Polter signing

QPR Crest

The German striker has fallen out of favour at current club FSV Mainz.

QPR’s bid to strengthen the squad for their assault on the Championship has seemingly led them to FSV Mainz striker Sebastian Polter, according to Get West London.

The 24-year old is out of favour at his current club and spent last season on loan at 2 Bundesliga side FC Union Berlin, managing 14 goals.

Berlin had hoped to secure his signature permantley but Mainz manager Christian Heidel revealed QPR looks to be the player’s destination.

"Sebastian will not come back to Mainz,” Heidel was quoted as saying by Get West London, before adding it was 'very likely' he'd join QPR.

The German striker is believed to be valued at around £1 million and a move to West London would see his first move abroad following spells at Wolfsburg, Nurnberg, Mainz and Union Berlin.

QPR look certain to lose the services of star striker Charlie Austin and the focus this summer will be trying to reinvest the considerable sum they should receive back into the squad.

Jamie Mackie was a shrewd addition but more will be needed if Chris Ramsey’s men are to cope with the demands of the Championship and mount a serious promotion push.
