The 23-year-old is out of contract at Premier League outfit Newcastle today, but he has been offered a new deal.
Ameobi is contemplating whether or not to pen to paper on the new contract, and, according to The Chronicle, Cardiff want to sign him on loan for the 2015-16 campaign.
It has been reported that West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Real Sociedad have all been interested in the former England Under-21 international, but none of those clubs have made a firm offer.
Should Sammy Ameobi move to Cardiff City?
Ameobi has been part of the Newcastle first team for a while now, but he has yet to make a mark at St. James’ Park.
The winger is not guaranteed a place in the Magpies’ starting line-up and could make just 25 appearances in the Premier League last season.
In those 25 league matches, Ameobi scored just two goals, created only 21 chances, had a pass accuracy of 66% and a shot accuracy of 27%, and won 57 headers, 51 dribbles and 38 tackles.
Moving to Cardiff could be a good decision for Ameobi, who can then kickstart his career and get some valuable playing time.
The fact that Newcastle have offered him a new contract shows that the club have faith in him and have him in their long-term plans.
