Raheem Sterling saga making a 'mockery' of Liverpool, says John Aldridge

Raheem Sterling

The winger looks destined to leave Anfield and Aldridge is keen for it happen sooner rather than later.

Writing on Kicca, John Aldridge says the ongoing transfer saga involving Raheem Sterling is making a 'mockery' of Liverpool.

The winger has failed to agree a new deal at Anfield despite months of contract talks, and he seems almost certain to leave the club in the near future.

The England man has so far been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs, with Manchester City currently the leading candidates for his signature having had a £40million bid for him rejected, with the Reds thought to be holding out for £50million, according to the Independent.

And Aldridge says the club should let him leave now.

“I think Brendan Rodgers should let Raheem Sterling leave for Manchester City now,” he wrote on Kicca.

“The sooner he leaves the better for all involved. All this transfer talk is making a mockery of Liverpool Football Club. For the sake of Liverpool Football Club they should take the millions on offer and then everybody will be better off.”

Should Liverpool sell Sterling to Manchester City now?

Selling Sterling now would certainly be of interest to Liverpool, who look set to make big money on the player regardless of where he ends up.

They are, however, fully entitled to wait for as long as possible to ensure they get the best possible price for their want-away young star. One possible tactic they may be employing is delaying a move in the hope that more parties become interested, so as to ramp up his price further.

Selling him now would also allow Liverpool to push ahead with further strengthening their squad, with the money they look set to make likely to come in handy in their pursuit of a much needed centre forward.
