HITC Sport understands former Leeds assistant manager Steve Thompson is set to join Preston's coaching team.
HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Preston North End are set to appoint former Leeds assistant manager Steve Thompson to their coaching set-up.
Experienced coach Thompson has been out of work after he was controversially suspended and then sacked by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino in April.
Thompson was a hugely popular figure at Leeds during his five months at the club, but Cellino decided to axe him without informing the then manager Neil Redfearn.
The 50-year-old is highly-regarded within coaching circles after starting his coaching career at Blackpool and he has managed the club on a caretaker basis twice.
Preston boss Simon Grayson is a big admirer of Thompson having worked with him during his time in charge of Blackpool and the pair together guided Blackpool to promotion to the Championship in the 2006-07 season.
Grayson is keen to be reunited with Thompson as he prepares for life in the Championship next season and he feels Thompson's experience will prove invaluable for the forthcoming season.
