The Tottenham midfielder appeared in determined mood ahead of pre-season in a recent interview.
The Algerian is currently on holiday but spoke to the club's official site to give some insight into his views on pre-season.
When asked whether he had plans for his time off the midfielder responded in a manner sure to have Spurs fans appreciative.
“Resting for a few days, although I don’t really allow myself to rest that much to be honest!”
“The coaches gave us a summer programme to work on but I told them I wouldn’t need it because I’m staying fit anyway. I plan to train even harder and come back stronger.”
It’s an answer which typifies Bentaleb’s approach on the pitch and has had Spurs fans describing him as future captain material.
Pochettino is renowned for the tough pre-season regime he inflicts upon his teams and this year will be no different. Bentaleb sees the merits of such an approach however, and is fully prepared for his second pre-season under the Argentinian.
“It’s a tough part of the year but it’s really important. The fitness of the team is vital – you can see how it helped us in a few games last season with the team never giving up and fighting to the end.”
“That won us a lot of points. Pre-season is about working hard and the players getting ready for the new campaign.”
The emergence of Nabil Bentaleb over the past two seasons has been one of the high points in Spurs’ recent history but issues over his contract has caused worry amongst fans.
His potential cannot be underestimated and any notion that Spurs could lose him on the basis of a contract dispute is almost unthinkable.
The elegant midfielder plays with a composure that belies his age and fans will be hopeful he sticks around for many years to come.
