Manchester United transfer news: Mixed reports regarding Ramos bid; De Gea to return to training

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

These Sergio Ramos rumours are starting to look a little muddled with the BBC reporting that Louis van Gaal’s side have made a bid of £28.6million for the Real Madrid centre-back.

That comes three days after the Telegraph claimed United had upped their initial bid to £42.5million for the 29-year-old.

That always seemed a worryingly large amount of money for the club to pay for a centre-back approaching his 30th birthday and now the BBC is suggesting a lower offer has been lodged and that van Gaal’s side believes Ramos wants to leave the Bernabeu.

United need defensive reinforcements but they are unlikely to be held to ransom when other quality centre-backs could be signed for between £25million and £30million.

In other news, the Daily Star claims United goalkeeper David de Gea has been ordered to return to pre-season training on Monday despite ongoing reports linking him with a return to Spain.

The report claims that De Gea is in limbo after United refused to sanction a move to Real unless it was on their own terms, with the player allegedly rated at £30million and Real offering only £15million.

In fairness to the player he has kept quiet on the matter and he may well be happy to return to Old Trafford given that he has not yet publicly asked for a transfer.
