Could Manchester United be about to add a quality midfielder to their ranks?
SkyBet have taken to Twitter on Monday to announce that they have suspended betting on Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin joining Manchester United this summer.
The bookie’s announcement came after what they called “a flurry of large bets” when the odds were as low as 1/12.
As reported by the Mirror earlier today, Schneiderlin is widely expected to sign for United in the coming days, with the latest report claiming it was the French international’s performance at Old Trafford last season that convinced manager Louis van Gaal to make a move.
At 25, and with plenty of Premier League experience under his belt, a move for Schneiderlin at this stage of his career makes sense for United.
They need more quality in central areas and the Southampton player has that in abundance. He is used to competing against – and often outshining – some of the best players in the Premier League (of which he is now one) and he will add support to a midfield that has relied for too long on Michael Carrick.
In the England international’s absence last season United suffered considerably and van Gaal will have noted that alarming fact early on.
If those placing that flurry of bets know the Frenchman is about to be announced as a United player, the Old Trafford faithful could be about to have a new fan favourite on their hands.
