Could Manchester United be set to miss out on one of Louis van Gaal's alleged summer targets?
The Telegraph is among the newspapers to have linked the German international with a potential move to Old Trafford in recent times, but the player himself appears happy to remain at the Allianz Arena for a while yet.
“I would like once again to win the Champions League,” Schweinsteiger told Sport1, “but also again to be as successful as in the last few years.
“We are three-times German champions, and I think no team has managed four times (in a row). That’s a motivation.”
So there you have it. That does not sound like a player preparing to bid farewell to a club where he has already played 500 times, scoring 68 goals and providing 101 assists in the process.
United could do with a player of Schweinsteiger’s quality but much like Ryan Giggs it could be that the German sees himself as a one club man.
The 30-year-old may have come relatively cheaply given that his current deal expires in just over 12 months, but signing a younger alternative should still set United up well for the next campaign.
For all the superstars linked with a move to United in recent times, the simple fact is the rumour mill throws up numerous scenarios and only a tiny percentage of those actually come true.
