Report: Steve McClaren to hold talks with Cheick Tiote this week

Cheick Tiote

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote could reportedly be sold this summer.

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren will speak to Cheick Tiote this week over his future, according to The Chronicle.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the defensive midfielder is ready to leave the Premier League outfit this summer.

Turkish club Trabzonspor are interested in the services of the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international, according to The Chronicle.

McClaren will hold talks with Tiote in the coming days and a final decision will be made this week, claims The Chronicle.

Should Newcastle United sell Cheick Tiote?

Tiote is one of the better players in the current Newcastle squad, and ideally the Premier League club should retain his services.

The midfielder, who worked with McClaren at Dutch side FC Twente, has been on the books of the Magpies since 2010 and has established himself as an important member of the team.

The former Anderlecht player could make just 11 appearances in the Premier League last season, though, due to injury.

Given that Tiote is 29 years of age and has two more years on his contract, Newcastle could decide to sell him this summer if they get a decent offer.

With the Magpies entering a new era, they need to have players who are young(er) and fully fit.
