Aston Villa media round-up: Liverpool and Spurs ponder swap deals for Benteke, Tjaronn Chery nears move

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Aston Villa today...

The Christian Benteke transfer saga looks like rumbling on long into the summer and fresh reports today emerged of two potential swap deals in the offing.

The Independent claim Liverpool will look to offload Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert in a cash plus player deal rather than pay the £32.5 million release clause.

The annual Liverpool/Spurs transfer battle appears to be in full swing as The Mirror report on Tottenham’s very own swap deal proposal. Emmanuel Adebayor is set to be used as bait in a deal to lure the Belgian to White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, Villa confirmed the addition of Ray Wilkins as assistant manager on their official site. Tim Sherwood spoke on his pleasure at the apppointment of the former Chelsea midfielder.

"I'm really pleased to bring Ray on board. He has a fantastic knowledge of the game and I'm looking forward to working with him," said the Villa manager.

Spurs youngster Josh Onomah was linked with a potential loan move to Villa Park by the Birmingham Mail.

Tim Sherwood’s connection to the Spurs academy has led to rumours surrounding loan deals for several of their young talents but any moves will rest on Mauricio Pochettino’s say so.

Finally, reports from The Sun suggest Villa are close to capturing Groningen attacker Tjaronn Chery. Villa are close to the asking price of £3.5 million and while still negotiating, are hopeful of securing a deal.
