Speaking to the official Villa website, Kieran Richardson has admitted that he looked up to Ian Wright and Ryan Giggs as a youngster, calling the Manchester United legend one of the best ever Premier League players.
He said: “I had two people [who I looked up to]. Ian Wright - I loved him as a kid - and Ryan Giggs - one of the best players to play in the Premier League.”
Richardson grew up in London, explaining the Arsenal links to Wright, but progressed through the Manchester United academy, making his name as an exciting left-winger.
He would have been growing as a footballer as Giggs was in his prime, proving his ability as one of the best ever wingers in Premier League history. Sharing many of the same traits to their game, Richardson’s career may not have reached the same heights as Giggs’, but there are some real similarities between the pair.
Whilst showing his attacking ability in the Premier League, Richardson, 30, has recently enjoyed something of a renaissance for Villa as an attaching left-back. This versatility is also something that Giggs showed during the latter stage of his career, and Richardson would do well to enjoy such a long stay in the top flight as the Welsh legend.
