Having learned his craft at Barcelona, Sergio Garcia went on to enjoy successful spells with Levante, Real Zaragoza and Real Betis, before joining Espanyol in 2010.
The talented and creative forward went on to become a key player for Espanyol, making a total of 162 appearances, whilst also contributing 45 goals for the Periquitos cause over five seasons.
Garcia had rejected approaches from China during the January 2015 transfer window, insisting that he would finish the 2014-15 campaign in La Liga. Now it appears the lure of a new adventure, along with an inevitably large hike in wages, has proven too much to resist.
In their press release, Espanyol announced that president Joan Collet and the club had respected an agreement with Garcia, which was part of the last contract renewal the player signed, therefore weren't going to stand in his way.
With the message - "Many thanks for everything and good luck, Sergio!" - it was also announced that the player will hold a farewell press conference on Tuesday at the Power8 Stadium, where the details of the 32-year-old's departure will be explained.
