According to a report on Italian website TMW, Liverpool have renewed their interest in signing Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev with a figure of £10.6 million being mooted.
The Russia international experienced a wonderful campaign last season on loan at Villarreal, scoring four La Liga goals and contributing with a further nine assists.
Yet following the signings of Danny Ings, James Milner and most recently Roberto Firmino, the necessity for the Premier League club to bring in another winger has faded somewhat.
Nevertheless, the opportunity to land Cheryshev in a bargain deal shouldn’t be cast aside and fresh reports from Italy state the Merseysiders are pressing on with their original interest.
What would Cheryshev offer Liverpool?
As per a previous article from HITC comparing Cheryshev with current Liverpool attacker Adam Lallana, the Madrid-based winger came out far more favourably over a number of key areas.
Aside from contributing directly to more goals, the 24-year-old averaged more shots, key passes and take-ons per La Liga fixture and is significantly better off the ball too in terms of tackles and interceptions.
In Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and now Roberto Firmino, the Reds have plenty of technical ability in wide areas but Cheryshev has a different skillset, combining tenacity and directness to good effect.
