As per the latest reports in Italian publication TMW, it is suggested that AS Roma are giving up the chase to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic due to his inflated asking price.
The Bosnia international has proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers in recent seasons, sparking plenty of speculation over his future.
According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa are extremely keen on acquiring him this summer and are considering a second bid after seeing an initial offer rejected.
The Villans certainly aren’t alone in their interest, but fresh reports suggest they’ve moved to the front of the queue due to financial reasons increasing the likelihood of Begovic remaining in the Premier League.
“Asmir Begovic seems further and further away from Roma. As per an exclusive report, he’s more likely to remain in the Premier League due to economic reasons,” TMW states.
How valuable is Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic?
Without doubt, Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic is one of the more highly-rated shot-stoppers in the Premier League and that has been illustrated with the Potters over the past few seasons.
Young England custodian Jack Butland is a fabulous talent, but he hasn't so far been able to get a look in at the Britannia Stadium due to the Potters' number one’s top form.
Finding a top-quality goalkeeper can be a difficult proposition, therefore Stoke are wise to hike his asking price up and force rivals such as Villa into coughing up a big sum for his signature.
