Report: Besiktas make approach for Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse

St James Park

Besiktas are reportedly interested in Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse.

Besiktas have made an approach for Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, according to The Mirror.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the Turkish club see the Senegal international as a replacement for Demba Ba, who has joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

The Chronicle had earlier reported that Newcastle have not received any offers for the 30-year-old, but The Mirror now claims of an approach from Besiktas.

Turkish rivals Trabzonspor are also interested in Cisse, according to the report.

Can Newcastle United afford to lose Papiss Cisse?

Cisse is one of the better players in the current Newcastle squad, and losing him would be a blow for the Magpies.

The Senegalese scored 11 goals and created six chances in 22 Premier League appearances in the 2014-15 campaign.

For Newcastle to break into the top 10 of the Premier League next season, Cisse needs to be part of the team.

However, if the Magpies can find a suitable replacement for the former Freiburg striker, then they can afford to sell him.

Should Papiss Cisse join Besiktas?

Besiktas are one of the biggest clubs of Turkey and will feature in the group stage of the Europa League next season.

The Istanbul outfit will be challenging for the Turkish Super Lig title next season, and it will be a step-up for Cisse if he leaves Newcastle for Senol Gunes’s side.

Newcastle are an also-ran in the Premier League, and the most they can hope for next season is a top-10 finish in the Premier League and a good run in cup competitions.
