Could Manchester United sign a very promising midfield talent from Ligue 1?
The 20-year-old has just enjoyed a wonderful individual showing at the under-20 World Cup where his country Mali finished the competition in third place.
In that time Traore scored four goals and provided three assists as his country defeated the likes of Senegal, Mexico and Ghana.
Traore has a contract with Lille until the summer of 2019 so there is no pressure on the French side to sell. But after making 24 senior appearances last season and shining on the world stage, it is being suggested that United, along with Chelsea and Manchester City, are taking notice.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Traore can also play in a more attacking role or on the left wing if required, and it will be interesting to see how his career develops.
The L’Equipe report suggests United’s interest has grown since his showings at the under-20 World Cup, where he was crowned the best player of the tournament, but such titles were once bestowed on the likes of Anderson and look how that turned out…
That said, United need to strengthen their midfield and while Traore is very much one for the future, they will know that having a strong pool of young talent in that area is crucial for their long-term success.
