Nottingham Forest may be about to beat Leeds United to the signing of free agent Nicky Maynard.
The Nottingham Post report Maynard is due to begin a two-week trial with the club today (Monday 29).
Recently released by Cardiff City after playing just 10 games last season, Forest are reportedly looking for Maynard to prove his fitness during the trial period.
The reports could be a blow for Leeds United, with The Sun claiming 24 hours ago that head coach Uwe Rosler has met with the striker personally in an attempt to convince him to sign for the club.
With Maynard due for a trial, one scenario that it could be Leeds who have trumped Forest - should the former West Ham striker have been convinced by Rosler at the last minute to join the Yorkshire side instead.
The status of which scenario the case will become clearer when the striker either does or does not attend Forest's pre-season training activities.
Not the only option
Nicky Maynard is not the only striker Nottingham Forest are looking at. The Nottingham Post report that former Peterborough and Ipswich striker Paul Taylor is also set to come on trial for a fortnight.
Taylor had unsuccessful spells on loan with both Rotherham and Blackburn next season but now has the chance for a fresh start.
