West Ham United's striker believes their newest signing could significantly improve his own performance in front of goal.
The left winger signed from French side Marseille for a fee in the region of £10million last week and Sakho for one believes it is a wonderful piece of business.
Sakho knows what it is like to be the new player on the block after arriving at Upton Park 12 months ago, and he wasted little time impressing, ending last season with 12 goals in 26 appearances.
But Sakho could see his goal tally increase considerably now Payet is on board, with the latter having an outstanding assist record during his time in France.
The new West Ham man provided 21 assists in 36 Ligue 1 games last season and in his club career to date Payet has set up goals on 95 occasions.
That is something that could see the likes of Sakho and Enner Valencia fill their boots and the former acknowledged the important role the £10million could play in Slaven Bilic’s first year in charge at Upton Park.
“I was happy to see the news on Friday because Payet is a very good player,” Sakho told whufc.com. “He’s good for me because he could give me 10 or 15 assists in the season.”
Injury prematurely ended Sakho’s debut season at West Ham but he will be hoping to hit the ground running from August, and if Payet does the same it could be a wonderful send-off for the club as they prepare for their move to the Olympic Stadium in 12 months.
