West Brom miss out as top striker target Demba Ba agrees Shanghai move

West Bromwich Albion were said to be in talks with former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba.

As per the Chinese club’s official website, former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba has agreed to join Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua.

The 30-year-old became one of the leading strikers on the market this summer after notching an impressive 27 goals in 44 matches for Turkish side Besiktas last season.

As per a number of reports in the Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion have been leading the charge for his signature and were hopeful of completing a £10million deal this weekend.

However, the Baggies have missed out as Shanghai’s official site explains how the Senegalese ex-West Ham United and Newcastle United scorer has opted for a move to China instead of a return to the Premier League.

“Shanghai Shenhua confirm that it has reached an agreement with Demba Ba, signing a three-year contract with the Chinese side. He will arrive on June 28 for a medical,” the report states.

What next for West Bromwich Albion?

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis needs to add strikers to his ranks this summer, with the team far too reliant on Saido Berahino for goals, as proven by the previous campaign.

The young England striker netted 14 times in the Premier League last season, 10 more goals than the Baggies next highest scorer Brown Ideye, who managed a disappointing four strikes.

As per a report in The Sun, Hull City’s Dame N’Doye is another alternative while Spurs wingers Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend have also been mooted as attacking targets, as per the Mirror.
