According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham have failed in a bid to sign Toby Alderweireld - because the player wants to join Tottenham.
The Hammers wrapped up their third signing of the summer on Friday, brining in Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet having already signed Birmingham City goalkeeper Darren Randolph and Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang.
New manager Slaven Bilic will now seek more additions this summer, and bringing in more quality in defence could be one of his main priorities.
The Daily Mirror believe that West Ham have turned their attention to Monaco centre back Aymen Abdennour having failed in a bid to sign Atletico Madrid's Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian international defender, 26, has just returned from to Madrid after a loan spell with Southampton, and his displays on the South Coast have triggered plenty of interest in his signature.
However, The Mirror believe that Alderweireld has snubbed the chance to sign for West Ham - because he wants to sign for rivals Tottenham instead.
The right decision
With his international centre back partner Jan Vertonghen already at Tottenham, a move to reunite with his former Ajax team-mate seems an easy decision for Alderweireld.
He is almost certain to start on a regular basis for Mauricio Pochettino's side, and whilst the same can be said for West Ham, Tottenham certainly have higher aspirations next season than their London rivals.
It's a blow for West Ham if true, but Bilic will no doubt have a list of targets to pursue this summer as he bids to add more defensive options.
