Bournemouth AFC player huddle

Newly-signed Bournemouth signing Tyrone Mings was reportedly a target of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion.

Matt Holland has taken to social networking site Twitter to have his say on Tyrone Mings’ move from Championship outfit Ipswich Town to newly-promoted Premier League club Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old defender has signed a four-year contract with the Cherries, who had to pay a club-record transfer fee of £8 million for his services, according to BBC Sport.

Former Bournemouth and Ipswich midfielder Holland believes that this is a great signing for Eddie Howe’s side, and has backed Mings to be a success in the Premier League.

Former Ipswich striker Frank Nouble and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman are happy to see Mings move to the Premier League, and have sent him congratulatory messages on Twitter.

Good signing from Bournemouth

Mings was one of the best young defenders in the Championship, and he could prove to be a valuable signing for Bournemouth, who will be aiming to stave off relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 22-year-old scored one goal and created 56 chances in 42 Championship appearances in the 2014-15 campaign.

The youngster had a pass accuracy of 63% and a shot accuracy of 45%, and won 69 headers, 50 dribbles and 78 tackles.

According to The Guardian, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United were all interested in securing the services of Mings this summer.

The Daily Star reported of Arsenal’s interest in the English youngster, who can play both as a centre-back and as a left-back.
