The Italian media claim that the Reds will turn their attention to the Brazil international.
The Anfield outfit have been linked with the Croatian playmaker over recent months, as per The Telegraph, but the latest report suggests that Roberto Mancini’s men want to keep the prodigious schemer.
As such, TMW have instigated that the Reds will turn their attentions to 30-year-old Hernanes, who is not an automatic starter in the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side.
The box-to-box man has been capped by Brazil 27 times but is not in Dunga’s current squad for the Copa America.
After starring for Lazio, Hernanes joined the Nerazzurri last year but has not hit the heights that he reached in the capital.
On first sight, following the capture of Roberto Firmino, Hernanes looks like a more practical signing than Kovacic would have been.
The South American plays deeper than the Croat and as such would give Brendan Rodgers more options in the centre of the park - which is necessary following the departure of Steven Gerrard.
With Firmino and Kovacic similar players in style, Hernanes also would offer a different skillset and complement the existing members of the Anfield squad.
