According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has received five contract offers to leave the club this summer, with Newcastle among the list of interested clubs.
Vlaar, 30, has been a regular for Villa ever since joining from Feyenoord in 2012, but now faces the exit with his contract set to expire in a matter of days.
The Dutchman will be free to join any club of his choice once his Villa contract expires, and it seems that clubs are already taking advantage of that.
The Daily Mail report that Vlaar already has five offers from other clubs - with three Premier League rivals interested in his signature.
Vlaar to Newcastle - a good idea?
Newcastle certainly need to bring in new defenders this summer, having seen Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson struggle last season.
However, part of the problem was that both players are in their 30's, and simply looked to have declined due to their age - so bringing Vlaar in would surely exacerbate the problem rather than solve it.
A move to Southampton under his former Feyenoord boss Ronald Koeman could make sense, especially if Southampton fail to sign loanee Toby Alderweireld permanently.
