Report: Atletico Madrid join race for Liverpool-linked Lucas Digne

PSG

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Lucas Digne.

According to a report in the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have contacted Paris Saint-Germain regarding the availability of left-back Lucas Digne.

The French international has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular for PSG, making just 14 top-flight starts last season as he was restricted to a place on the bench.

Due to his status at the club, heavy speculation has surrounded his future this summer, and reports in the French press France Football claimed that Liverpool were in pole position to sign him.

The Reds appear keen on bolstering their fullback positions and if Digne is their ideal target, then the Anfield club will need to move quickly as reports of Atletico Madrid interest have surfaced.

“The search for new players continues as sources in France have assured that Los Colchoneros have asked about Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne’s situation,” Mundo Deportivo reports.

What can Lucas Digne offer?

Digne is predominantly an attacking left-back, although he can be pushed further up as a versatile left-winger due to his pace and impressive crossing ability.

At just 21 years of age, he has plenty of potential to improve and having already been capped by his country eight times, France see him as their ideal Patrice Evra replacement.

In the previous report in France Football, his estimated cost was said to be in the region of £8.6 million plus bonuses, a bargain fee which Liverpool and Atletico should look to exploit.
