HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal that Turkish giants Besiktas are aiming to beat several Premier League clubs to the signing of Lorient defender Lamine Kone.
The likes of Sunderland, West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers have all been tracking Kone, but Besiktas have stolen a march on their English rivals by tabling an offer for the highly-rated centre-back.
Kone has established himself as one of the best defenders in Ligue 1 with a number of commanding displays for Lorient during the past four seasons.
International deal broker Simon Conning is working on behalf of Kone and is dealing with the bid from Besiktas and interest from other clubs.
Lorient are bracing themselves for more offers for Kone, with the player's Premier League suitors weighing up moves for the 26-year-old.
Kone has played for France at every level from Under 17 to U20, but he is now an Ivory Coast international after pledging his allegiance to the African nation.
Kone enjoyed a four-year spell at Chateauroux before joining Lorient, where he has played over 100 games in Ligue 1.
