According to The Daily Mail, the England international right-back is set to join Merseyside outfit Liverpool this summer.
The 24-year-old will put pen to paper on a five-year contract and will have a medical next week once he returns from holiday in the USA, according to The Daily Mail.
Former Sunderland and Nottingham Forest striker Cole seems to believe that Liverpool are making a great signing in Clyne.
“Nathaniel Clyne going to Liverpool sounds like a good deal to me,” the former England international wrote on Kicca.com. “I think he is the best right back in the country, I really do.
“He has done very well at Southampton and at £12m Liverpool have got a good deal, it’s not ridiculous money so both parties will be happy with that.
“He’s a good player, he has proved that at Southampton and he was massively disappointed he didn’t play for England and so he should be.”
Would Nathaniel Clyne be a good signing for Liverpool?
Clyne is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, and he is certainly going to enhance the quality of the current Liverpool squad.
The former Crystal Palace defender scored two goals and created 22 chances in 35 Premier League appearances in the 2014-15 season.
The 24-year-old had a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 36%, and won 12 headers, 27 dribbles and 74 tackles.
