Jarvis confirmed that he’s not yet met the new manager, despite the fact that West Ham’s first team squad have already got back together for pre-season training.
West Ham play their first game of their new season this time next week and Jarvis has explained that Bilic will start putting across his philosophy to the players from tomorrow.
“I haven’t met [Slaven Bilic] yet. He’s coming out [to Ireland] on Friday,” he told DriveTime for talkSPORT.
“It’ll be good to meet him and see what his way of doing things is.”
“We’ve come back and gone straight into pre-season where you work at your fitness and with it all working towards the game, he’ll be here and show us how he wants us to play. We’ll have to get on with it.”
A risk by Bilic?
It does seem a little risky for Bilic to link up with his squad and have only a handful of games before a very important Europa League qualification game.
However, he’s not a naïve coach and most likely trusts the staff in place to drill the players in terms of their fitness.
He’ll also trust the players to have enough quality to get the better of FC Lusitans over the course of two games and it would be a major surprise if the Hammers can’t get a win.
An opportunity for Jarvis and others
This is a real opportunity for Jarvis and other players in a similar position, to transform their status at the club.
The winger really struggled to make an impression under Sam Allardyce last season, but the slate has been wiped clean and he’s got a chance to make an immediate impression on the club’s new manager.
