Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Lopes.

According to the French publication Mercatofoot, Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Lopes and held talks with his entourage in the past few days.

The Portuguese international right-back was previously linked with Spurs under then-boss Andres Villas Boas and later with a loan spell last July, as per a report in the Daily Mail.

On that occasion, a deal failed to materialise and the 28-year-old went on to play a bit-part role during Sporting’s league campaign and cup triumph last season.

Now, despite the signing of Kieran Trippier form Burnley, Spurs are said to have rekindled their interest in Lopes and have held discussions over a move to White Hart Lane in the past few days.

“Spurs have held discussions with the entourage of former Lyon player Miguel Lopes in recent days. It was a positive meeting in which the Londoners expressed a strong interest,” Footmercato explain.

The future of Kyle Walker under threat?

Following the acquisition of Kieran Trippier, Spurs are well marshalled in the right-back area with Kyle Walker and even Eric Dier fellow options.

Showing an interest in adding Miguel Lopes seems rather strange unless Spurs are preparing to offload the exceptionally talented but often inconsistent Walker.

A recent report in the Daily Mail suggested as such following Trippier’s arrival and their claims could be boosted further by reports of Spurs’ renewed interest in Lopes.
