Three players linked with Leeds United this week: Theme emerging for Rosler?

Leeds United continue to be linked with a number of potential signings as the transfer rumour mill spins round.

Leeds United have been superb in the transfer market since the end of last season, with new head coach Uwe Rosler addressing a number of areas in his squad.

A new goalkeeper, a centre back and a centre forward have all been added to the playing staff ahead of the competitive action returning this August and there are signs of further additions on the way.

Here are three other players who have been linked with joining Leeds United over the past week.

Joey Barton (Unattached)

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported earlier this week that financial issues were holding back Joey Barton from potentially moving to Elland Road. The midfielder would certainly be a top quality and experienced addition to the middle of the team.

Birkir Bjarnason (Pescara)

TMW has reported that the Leeds United target is set to make a decision over his future next week, after the Italian source quoted his agent, who suggested that he and the player are evaluating all possibilities.

Stefano Okaka (Sampdoria)

Italian source TuttoSport has reported that Sampdoria are keen to get the best possible price for the player, Sport Witness claims he is still a target for the Elland Road club.

Rumours show a theme

Two of the three rumours link Leeds with moves for midfielders, which is a key area of the squad which Rosler does still need to improve.

He has good young options centrally, but no real experience to put into the side next to them following the exit of Rudy Austin.

Joey Barton would be a fantastic signing in terms of experience and the aggressive way he plays, but as the YEP points out, it appears difficult for all parties to come to a mutual agreement.

Bjarnason of Serie B side Pescara would be more of a gamble, but an arguably easier deal to complete.
