The SM Caen midfielder is reportedly close to making a move to Marseille.
Leicester City had reportedly launched an £8 million bid for the French midfielder last week, according to The Sun, while Newcastle were rumoured to be among the Premier League clubs interested in his signature, as per talkSPORT.
All interested parties in England appear to have missed out, however, as Le10 Sport claim the 24-year old is close to a move to the Stade Velodrome.
A verbal agreement has reportedly occurred after Marseille were quick to react to the news that key man Dmitri Payet is poised to link up with West Ham United – as reported by Sky Sports.
The news will come as a blow to Leicester in particular who, after securing the signing of Robert Huth on Wednesday, are looking to add new faces further up the pitch.
Reports of an ambitious £7 million bid for Stoke City’s player of the season, Steven N’Zonzi , have also emerged recently, in the Telegraph, and Nigel Pearson’s desire to add some power to his midfield is clear to see.
The ambition is laudable but a deal for N’Zonzi is unlikely to go through with the player himself stating his desire to move on to bigger things, and that will add to their failure to secure Kante.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have turned their attention to the Dutch market as they seek to follow the ‘Daryl Janmaat’ blueprint and hope more Eredivisie expats can have a similar impact on Tyneside.
