Report: Crystal Palace make move to sign Netherlands international winger Ola John

Crystal Palace have moved to sign the Swansea City target.

The 23-year-old currently plays for Benfica, but his availability on the market has seen Crystal Palace make a move to sign him, according to the Daily Mail.

John, the younger brother of former Fulham striker Collins John, has struggled to establish himself at Benfica since his return from a loan with Hamburg last summer. He did make 36 appearances during the 2014/15 season, but the majority of them were from the substitutes bench, and he is said to be keen on searching for more consistent first-team football.

The 23-year-old is primarily a left-winger, although he can play anywhere across the front line, and impressive form with FC Twente and Benfica - immediately following his signing in 2012 - saw him earn international recognition with the Netherlands.

Swansea were reportedly on the verge of signing John last month, according to Voetbal International, having agreed a five-year deal with him. However, that move never materialised, and the Mail article claims that the two clubs could not come to an agreement over a transfer fee.

It is indicated that Benfica are willing to sell him for around £7 million, and with Palace ready to make a move for John, it is likely that they are preparing a bid of that value. He is the kind of player who will add more quality depth to an already impressive attacking force, and signing John would be a wise move for Palace to make this summer.
