Usually, when the cameras are fixed on professional footballers, they are all smiles. At Melwood each week last season, Brendan Rodgers and his Liverpool charges would be all smiles, joking and messing about, before then going on to lose another big game that weekend.
Clearly, they were putting on a fake show for the photographers. But, on Thursday afternoon, such was the mood in the England Under-21s that Liverpool forward Danny Ings and Tottenham talisman Harry Kane could not even produce a fake smile for the cameras.
Indeed, as the England side left the Czech Republic after being knocked out of the European Championships, both the Spurs and Reds strikers looked glum - as did the rest of the side. Their expressions summed up the mood in the Three Lions camp.
England's 3-1 defeat to Italy, of course, has raised a number of inevitable questions. Is Gareth Southgate to blame? Should Kane have done more? Should Ings have done more?
Either way, every tournament brings up the same old story with this same old FA. And the faces of the Tottenham and Liverpool stars told the story quite well...
