People News: HSBC, Rothschild.

HSBC has named JPMorgan’s Pablo Sanchez as head of retail banking and wealth management in the U.S. and Canada.

Bloomberg News reports that Sanchez, who began June 1, also oversees the unit’s mortgage and insurance businesses, HSBC Bank USA said Tuesday in a statement. He succeeds Kevin Newman, who’s retiring after 25 years with HSBC, the bank said.

In the meantime, the New York Post reports that Rothschild head honcho James Lawrence is leaving the blue-blood investment banking dynasty for the rough-and-tumble business of activist investing, the newspaper says it has learned.

The outgoing chairman of Rothschild North America, the subsidiary controlled by Europe’s most storied banking family, is teaming with activist hedge fund Jana Partners.
