Barclays has hired Richard 'Rick' Sherlund as chairman of software banking after he spent more than 20 years as an equity analyst.

Bloomberg News reports that Sherlund joins Barclays from Nomura Holdings, where he served the past four years as a managing director and head of U.S. technology research, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News. 

Sherlund, who also previously worked at Goldman Sachs, plans to start in September. For 17 years, he was ranked No. 1 as a software analyst by financial magazine Institutional Investor.

In the meantime, Bloomberg also reports that Barclays Africa Group said Willie Lategan resigned as chief executive officer of its wealth, investment management and insurance unit.

Lategan, 46, will leave at the end of September having worked for the company for 20 years.
