The Daily Mail have claimed that Dimitri Payet is set to travel to England on Thursday, as a transfer to West Ham looks to be completed.

The Hammers have agreed a £12 million fee with Marseille for his transfer, and Payet was unimpressed by the Ligue 1 outfit’s last contract offer, with the playmaker keen on moving to England.

France Football add further backing to these claims, suggesting he will undergo his medical on Thursday, when he arrives in England, and has agreed terms to a five-year contract, with the option for an extra year.

However, Payet's agent has downplayed these rumours in an interview with La Provence, claiming that nothing is yet agreed with West Ham, and that Payet is working with president Vincent Labrune to agree a deal to stay with Marseille.

With Payet incoming, West Ham could agree to the departure of Stewart Downing, with the Mail reporting on Sunderland’s interest in him.

The English international has already been the subject of a £5 million bid from the Premier League outfit, but it is believed a new bid could be submitted in the coming days.

Another club have started to show an interest in Hammers target Kara Mbodj, with the Liverpool Echo claiming that Everton want to sign him. Celtic have also been linked, but there are no indications as to who is leading the race for his signature.
