Ronny Deila dismisses rumours linking James Forrest with a Celtic exit

The Celtic player is going nowhere according to his manager.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has been speaking in a press conference later published by the club’s official Twitter account.

The Bhoys boss – whose side recently returned to pre-season training after a brief summer break – was asked about the prospect of James Forrest leaving the club this summer, and his response was clear.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has his eye on a summer move for Forrest, but when asked about the speculation, Deila swiftly dismissed it.

“That he is going to stay here as well,” Deila said in response to the rumours. “Why go to Bolton when he is at Celtic? James is a very important player for us and we want to keep him here at Celtic.

“We expect more from him this season. It’s a big season for him but it’s a big season for everybody.”

Forrest played 29 times for Celtic last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in the process. But injury played a part in limiting his chances and he will no doubt be hoping to have a problem-free campaign to really show Deila what he is capable of.

The 23-year-old has already racked up 155 appearances for the Bhoys and he has been capped 10 times for Scotland.

But having played his way back to full fitness at the end of the last campaign, the time has come for him to show consistency and prove he can make a real difference to a side looking not just to replicate their double success but also make waves in Europe once more.
