Carragher suggests Wenger has addressed key problem in his squad

Former England defender Jamie Carragher has suggested Arsenal are solving a long standing problem with a deal for Petr Cech.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told talkSPORT show Drivetime that he feels Arsene Wenger has solved a long term problem by going after Petr Cech.

The BBC has reported that Cech is close to joining the Gunners, with a deal yet to be officially announced between Chelsea and Arsenal.

However, Carragher told talkSPORT that he’s got no doubt that the move can be considered a positive one for the North Londoners.

“I think they’ve always been a little bit short in that area – In terms of Petr Cech, you can still class him as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League – I think he’s only going to make them stronger,” he said.

Why is Cech a good signing for Arsenal?

He’s a great signing because he takes care of a position where there were question marks for Arsenal last season.

He will be the undoubted number one at the Emirates Stadium and offers a long term option and the promise of consistency in that position.

Arsene Wenger will know exactly what he’s getting every time he selects Cech to play in a big game.

How will Cech benefit Arsenal’s defence?

He’s a very experienced player and someone who will be important in terms of organising the club’s back four.

Arsenal were arguably vulnerable to the counter attack at times last season and the Czech is someone who can keep the back four disciplined and well drilled.

He’s a leader and will be able to communicate effectively with the defenders in front of him to address problems that he seems developing.
