Report: Sunderland and Southampton only clubs interested in Jordy Clasie, as Schalke pull out

Southampton and Sunderland are now the only teams chasing Jordy Clasie.

The Premier League duo have long been linked with making a move for Feyenoord captain and talented midfielder Clasie, and now it appears as if Southampton and Sunderland are the only rivals vying for his signature.

The Daily Star reported on interest in Clasie from Southampton, with the 23-year-old excelling at De Kuip under the tutelage of Ronald Koeman, whilst SoccerNews has claimed that Sunderland are also interested in his services.

Schalke were said to be the favourites for his signature, but the latest report - published in SoccerNews - has confirmed that they are no longer showing an interest in him. The Bundesliga outfit completed the signing of Johannes Geis earlier today, and with their similar style of play, any potential deal for Clasie has been written off by the German club.

This means that the only two clubs with a confirmed interest in the playmaker are left chasing his signature, being Southampton and Sunderland.

There are no indications as to whether either of the clubs have submitted formal approaches for him, or as to which club Clasie would prefer to join. However, it is likely that the midfielder would be keen to reunite with Koeman at Southampton, having worked so well together with Feyenoord.

The Star report claims that he could be sold for a roughly £13 million fee, and for a player of his quality, both of the Premier League duo should be going all out to sign Clasie.
