Report: Nottingham Forest not interested in Brad Jones

Forest City Ground

Former Middlesbrough and Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones has been linked with Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion.

Nottingham Forest are not interested in signing former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones this summer, according to The Nottingham Post.

Jones is a free agent at the moment after leaving Premier League outfit Liverpool at the end of the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

According to a report in SBS over the weekend, Forest manager Dougie Freedman was interested in signing the 33-year-old Australia international.

However, The Nottingham Post has now claimed that the Reds are not pursuing the former Middlesbrough goalkeeper, who played for Derby County during a loan spell in 2011.

Earlier this month, The Tamworth Herald reported that Premier League club West Bromwich Albion are interested in Jones.

Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeping situation

At the moment, Championship outfit Forest have two senior goalkeepers in their squad following the return of Karl Darlow to Premier League club Newcastle United after his loan spell at the City Ground ended last month.

Dimitar Evtimov and Dorus de Vries are the two senior goalkeepers at Freedman’s disposal at the moment, which means that the Scot will want to sign another player in that position for the 2015-16 campaign.

De Vries is 34 years of age and Evtimov is 21, and neither has played too many games for the Reds’ first team.

Given the transfer embargo hanging over Forest, Freedman will not to be able to sign a top-quality goalkeeper and will need to do some good scouting to unearth a gem.
