Report: No bids for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic

Begovic has been linked with other Premier League clubs such as Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea over the course of the past year.

Stoke City are yet to receive any bids for their goalkeeper Asmir Begovic despite press speculation, according to a report in the Stoke Sentinel.

Begovic has been linked with a move away from the Britannia Stadium and only has a year on his contract, but despite many top Premier League sides' names becoming attached to the Bosnian in reports, it seems that no interest in the goalkeeper has been firmed up.

The report does say, however, that there has been no real progress in getting the goalkeeper to sign a new contract with the Potters. With only a year left, one would imagine the club would want a decision one way or the other from the player.

If he does sign a new contract then it will be a clear indication that he wishes to stay put, but if he doesn't then Stoke can look to cash in and invest that money in a replacement.

There have been indications that both the club and the player want to sit down and discuss the future but nothing has been forthcoming.

Premier League teams like Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for Begovic by sources such as Metro. Liverpool would seem unlikely for now as they seem to have their number one and two goalkeepers sorted for next season.

As far as Tottenham are concerned, a lot will depend on the future of Hugo Lloris, while Chelsea could be looking for a new goalkeeper with Petr Cech likely to depart to Arsenal, though one would doubt whether Begovic would move anywhere to play second fiddle.

But if they have had no bids so far, the Stoke hierarchy should be keener than ever to reach an agreement with their goalkeeper.
