Report: Carl Jenkinson wants West Ham move, not Sunderland

West Ham United, Sunderland and Southampton are reportedly interested in Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson.

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson wants to join West Ham United and not Sunderland on loan this summer, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that the England international right-back is not keen on moving to Sunderland, despite the Black Cats’ interest in him.

Sunderland have offered a loan fee of £2 million to Arsenal, according to the report, but the 23-year-old wants to return to West Ham for the second season in a row.

The former Charlton Athletic defender played on loan for the Hammers during the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

Premier League rivals Southampton are also interested in the services of Jenkinson, according to The Sun.

West Ham United or Sunderland?

It makes sense that Jenkinson (reportedly) prefers moving to West Ham to joining Sunderland.

The Hammers could be playing in the Europa League next season and have also plans to compete for a top-six or top-seven finish in the Premier League.

Moreover, the defender played for the Hammers in 2014-15 and enjoyed his time there. Jenkinson knows the club and is guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.

On the other hand, Sunderland narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League and could once again struggle for survival in the English top flight next season.
