Report: Southampton not interested in Newcastle target Charlie Austin

The Saints have been linked with a move for the 25-year old but reportedly have their sights set elsewhere.

Southampton, have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign apparent Newcastle United target Charlie Austin, as reported by Talksport.

Austin has attracted widespread interest according to the radio station, after bagging 18 Premier League goals in a relegated Queens Park Rangers side last season.

The Saints are not thought to have launched a bid for the England striker as Ronald Koeman arguably has priorities in other areas of his team.

The signing of Juanmi earlier this month adds to the attacking options of Graziano Pelle and Shane Long and it would appear that Charlie Austin isn’t deemed a necessary acquisition at this point.

Where will Austin go?

With Southampton seemingly out of the running for his signature, interested parties; Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Ham (linked by talkSPORT and the Daily Mirror) have been handed a timely boost.

The Daily Mail recently ran a report, suggesting that the striker preferred a stay in the capital but Newcastle will be hopeful their size and the lure of that famous number 9 jersey, could be enough to prise him away from London.
