Chelsea legend John Terry told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT that Petr Cech has the ability to make a real difference if he joins Arsenal.
TalkSPORT suggests that the Gunners are one of the possible destinations for the Czech goalkeeper and Terry told the radio show that he feels the experienced star could make the difference of giving the Gunners five extra wins over the course of a season.
“There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season,” he said.
“Petr was an unbelievable professional last year. When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in [to the side], he was exceptional.”
“He deserves a lot of credit for that. We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club.”
What’s the latest?
There has been no official line coming out of either Arsenal or Chelsea to suggest that a deal has been officially agreed for Cech to become an Arsenal player.
Sky Sports has reported that the player and Arsenal are thought to have agreed initial terms over a move, but there is still a difference of opinion between the clubs over an appropriate fee for the transfer.
How will Cech improve the Gunners?
Besides from making some world class saves, Cech is going to be very important to Arsenal’s defence if he completes any move.
He is a commanding goalkeeper with the ability to come out and protect his back four, taking some of the pressure away from them.
He’ll also play a key role in organising the back four from open play and set pieces, which should make them harder to break down and Arsenal more difficult to beat.
